Sarah Gilden, MS, LCPC, NCC is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Board-Approved Supervisor in Maryland and a National Board Certified Counselor. Since 2013, she has worked at her private practice, Outside the Box Counseling, in Rockville, MD. Prior to being in private practice, Sarah was a counselor at the Mental Health Association of Frederick County. She earned her Masters of Science in Clinical Community Counseling from Johns Hopkins University in 2011 and is a member of Chi Sigma Iota, Lambda Chapter. Her undergraduate degree is in Psychology from Wesleyan University in 1998.
Sarah’s specialty area is working with LGBTQ clients on issues surrounding sexual orientation and gender identity, with an interest in social justice and diversity issues. She also enjoys working with clients who believe their lives have not developed in accordance with a “socially acceptable timeline” and are struggling to both cultivate and accept their own unique journey. In addition, Sarah has experience working with trauma, depression and anxiety, relationship issues, and career transitions. She practices from a person-centered and feminist perspective, which has been shaped by her prior experience working in fundraising and development for Smith College and the National Organization for Women, as well as Program Director for a national association of non-profits providing food and nutrition services to LGBTQ communities.
Sarah was the Member-at-Large on the Executive Committee of the Maryland Counseling Association from 2016-2018, and was Treasurer from 2013 to 2016. She is a member of the American Counseling Association and of the Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Issues in Counseling. In addition to her work as a counselor, Sarah was the Clinic Director at Quince Orchard Medical Center, an integrative medical practice, from 2013 to 2020.
